About the role
Turion Space is developing space vehicle hardware and software infrastructure. This role is a Mid-Level Systems Engineer focused on Payload Electronics & Integration, serving as the technical bridge between electrical engineering, FPGA, and firmware teams to define, integrate, and validate complex electronic systems for next-generation space payloads.
What you would do
* Drive system-level thinking across integrated software, firmware, and electronics to ensure payload architectures meet functional, performance, and reliability requirements * Act as the primary technical bridge between the payload team and EE, FPGA, and Firmware disciplines to translate system requirements into actionable hardware/software specifications * Document and manage Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for data links, power distribution, and command/control telemetry * Collaborate on hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) testing, board-level bring-up strategies, and payload integration test plans to validate electronic subsystems * Participate in interdisciplinary troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex anomalies at the hardware-firmware-software intersection
What they are looking for
* 3 to 6+ years of experience in systems engineering, electrical engineering, embedded systems, or closely related multidisciplinary field * Proven ability to analyze systems past the component layer with deep understanding of firmware architecture impact on hardware performance * Familiarity with Python, C/C++, or MATLAB for data analysis, hardware automation, or system modeling * Strong familiarity with embedded systems concepts, microcontrollers, FPGA development workflows, and low-level firmware/software architectures * Working knowledge of digital electronics, power budgeting, and common communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, Ethernet, High-Speed SerDes) * Exceptional communication and collaborative skills to translate complex concepts between hardware engineers and software developers * Proficiency with systems engineering tracking tools (Jama, DOORS, Jira) to maintain requirement traceability
* Experience in aerospace, robotics, defense, or high-reliability consumer electronics * Experience interfacing EE, FPGA, Firmware with optical hardware or electro-optical (EO/IR) payloads and sensor/camera systems integration * Experience developing automated test scripts (Python, PyTest) or frameworks for HITL validation and continuous integration * Familiarity with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) or embedded Linux architectures and their constraints on hardware resource allocation * Hands-on experience using high-speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers to debug hardware-to-firmware communication
