About the role
Launched in 2021, Fanatics Betting and Gaming is the online and retail sports betting subsidiary of Fanatics, a global digital sports platform. The Fanatics Sportsbook is available to 95% of the addressable online sports bettor market in the U.S. Fanatics Casino is currently available online in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Fanatics Betting and Gaming operates twenty-two retail sports betting locations, including the only sportsbook inside an NFL stadium at Northwest Stadium. Fanatics Betting and Gaming is headquartered in New York with offices in Denver, Leeds and Dublin.
The Accounts team sits within the Fanatics Betting and Gaming - Shared Services domain and owns the customer account lifecycle, from registration, login, and identity verification to the geolocation, eligibility, and responsible gaming controls that decide whether a customer is allowed to play. Accuracy and customer trust are the team’s core tenets, because customers trust us with their money, their identity, and their personal data.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain the scalable, highly available, and compliant Java services behind the account lifecycle. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys owning features end to end, solving complex integration problems, and working closely with product, compliance, and operations partners. This is a US-based remote position.
What you would do
- Design, build, and maintain Java backend services using Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Deliver features across registration, KYC, login and MFA, device registration, account management, tax reporting, Fanatics ID integration, and watchlist monitoring.
- Build and maintain services that enforce regulatory and responsible gaming requirements, including geolocation, state and self-exclusion, prohibited persons, loss limits, and eligibility.
- Build integrations with third-party identity, verification, geolocation, and compliance providers, designing for failure, retries, and data integrity.
- Write scalable, well-tested services with strong unit and integration test coverage.
- Contribute to architecture and design discussions for APIs, event-driven systems, and data flows.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and take part in the weekly on-call rotation, contributing to runbooks and post-mortems.
