Staff Software Engineer

Funding Circle is a fintech platform helping UK small businesses access funding quickly. This Staff Software Engineer role provides senior technical leadership within the Multi-Product Experiences Engineering Group, responsible for the platform capabilities that allow customers to browse, apply for, and manage credit products. You will shape technical direction, mentor Lead Engineers, and drive innovation through emerging technologies.

* Collaborate with product leadership to understand business goals and define target system and data architecture with clear iteration milestones * Write clear and thorough technical designs, standards, and documentation to guide the engineering organisation * Coach and mentor Lead Engineers through feedback, decision-making guidance, and role modeling for aspiring Staff Engineers * Perform deep-dive technical troubleshooting and problem-solving in a hands-on capacity while enabling teams to resolve future issues independently * Engage stakeholders across the organisation to present technology solutions, risks, and tradeoffs, influencing decisions without formal authority * Drive continuous improvement and raise technical standards across the group * Proactively identify and apply Generative AI tools and techniques to transform engineering processes and drive innovation * Represent Funding Circle externally at events to share industry insights and attract talent

* Proven experience as an engineering leader solving high-level problems while remaining hands-on with technical challenges * Strong technical documentation and communication skills * Proficiency in at least one major programming language such as Python, Ruby, or Java * Strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms * Familiarity with developing on Unix/Linux * Experience with Agile, Scrum, BDD, TDD, and CI/CD methodologies * Track record delivering mission-critical, high-value products and services * Demonstrated passion for and proven experience adopting and applying emerging technologies, particularly Generative AI, to solve complex engineering challenges
