About the role
Director, Platform Engineering Location: Remote (UK/Ireland) - Citizenship/Settled Status/ILR Required Salary: £120k + 10% bonus Our client is a global payments technology company building an internal platform that works like its own AWS, spanning public cloud and on prem. Engineers and AI agents use it to get what they need without raising a ticket. They're looking for a Director to lead one of the platform teams (Systems, Network, Identity, or Reliability & Performance). You'll be the team's technical authority and still hands on, while owning the people, the roadmap and the results.
What you would do
* Leading, hiring and developing a team of platform engineers
* Setting technical direction and owning your team's architecture and design decisions
* Turning your area of the estate into self service, API driven capabilities
* Writing and reviewing code, IaC and designs every week, and going deep in incidents
* Owning the roadmap, quarterly plans and delivery, measured by tickets eliminated and service levels
* Making AI assisted engineering the norm across your team
* Building PCI DSS and SOX controls into the platform with automatic evidence
What they are looking for
* Experience leading production engineering teams, including hiring and performance management
* Hands on expertise in systems, network, reliability or identity
* Strong IaC (Terraform, Ansible) plus secrets management, service discovery, OIDC and observability
* Public cloud experience (AWS and/or Azure, GCP or OCI)
* Experience running production services in regulated environments (PCI DSS, SOX)
* Daily use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) and an understanding of MCP and agents
* Bonus points for Vault, Consul, Entra ID, OpenTelemetry, vSphere, Palo Alto or HAProxy
