About the role

Etched is building custom hardware for AI inference systems. This role leads the chip simulation team, which develops the bit-accurate, cycle-aware simulator that enables software development and hardware-software co-design before silicon is available.

What you would do

* Provide technical leadership for the chip simulation team, guiding engineers through architecture, implementation, debugging, and performance optimization * Own the technical direction of simulation infrastructure, ensuring accuracy, scalability, performance, and maintainability * Lead design and code reviews, establishing engineering best practices and maintaining high code quality standards * Mentor and support engineers navigating complex technical challenges, and remain hands-on contributing to critical implementations and architectural prototyping * Drive hardware-software co-design partnerships with hardware architects and software teams, overseeing simulator integration including QEMU-based host integration and multi-chip simulation

What they are looking for

* Deep expertise in C/C++ and low-level systems software development * Experience leading complex technical projects and guiding other engineers through design, implementation, and code reviews * Strong understanding of computer architecture, hardware-software interfaces, and systems programming * Experience building or developing hardware simulators, architectural models, or other complex systems software * Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software boundaries

* Experience developing hardware or system simulators using SystemC, gem5, QEMU, or custom simulation frameworks * Cycle-accurate, cycle-aware, or bit-accurate hardware modeling experience * Firmware, kernel, and driver development experience, including Linux or FreeRTOS * Experience with Python-based testing infrastructure, Bazel, and Git * Leadership of small technical teams or ownership of simulation infrastructure in a semiconductor or accelerator startup

What comes with it

Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage; $500/month credit for waiving medical benefits; $2,500/month housing subsidy for those within walking distance of office; relocation support; wellness benefits; daily lunch and dinner in office; unlimited compute budget subject to ROI justification
