Engineering Manager

We are seeking a high-performance Engineering Manager to lead a dedicated team of Engineers building and scaling Focal, with a strong focus on innovation, reliability, and delivering impactful solutions for our customers.

As a Software Engineering Manager, your daily workload might include:

- Manage and mentor a team of engineers to design, develop and maintain product features.

- Ensure the code and design quality are against the industry’s best practices and highest standards.

- Coach and mentor team members on high-level design, architecture, effort sizing, and testing practices.

- Give engineers feedback on their day-to-day job performance.

- Steer the engineers’ individual learning and development plans.

- Initiate hiring and the allocation of any resources needed to support the team.

- Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments.

- Oversee the implementation of the software development process.

Our target profile is candidates with...

- BS/MS from a top school in Computer Science or any related field.

- 10 years of software engineering experience, preferably in SaaS or large-scale distributed applications.

- Previous team leadership experience.

- Solid communication skills and the ability to convey technical solutions to the end-user and the engineering team. Ability to briefly explain sophisticated issues in systems and processes.

- Solid experience of multiple programming languages with a demonstrated drive to learn and progress in the technical skill and nuanced art of development.

- Proficient understanding of system design and distributed computing principles. Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, such as HBase, Cassandra, and MongoDB.

- Solid understanding of the Scrum agile framework and other software development processes.
